Leslie Dallam
Leslie Dallam is an artist who explores mixed media in her artwork. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a young child she started her life in rural Oklahoma running around barefoot with her twin sister and their pet crow. Her parents who were part Native American would take her back to New Mexico to visit relatives and learn about the culture, arts, and the environment. Santa Fe was where they would often visit. She learned as a young adult when visiting her relatives how sacred the water was in New Mexico. This idea has stayed with her and has led her to use recycled materials in her artwork. She received her BA in Studio Art and her M. Ed at East Central University in Ada. She has primarily lived in Oklahoma and derives her ideas for her artwork from her childhood memories and experiences from her adulthood. Leslie taught art (kindergarten through twelfth grade) in several places in Oklahoma. She is currently working on forests and uses her photographs from Colorado as her inspiration for her forest designs. She uses simple designs and primarily recycled materials with splashes of color and texture to construct her forest. Now that Leslie is retired, she is a full-time artist and relishes the time she has to create her artwork.
