Meeting Christy Jester today, it is hard to imagine that just over 4 years ago she was lost, hurting, and battling a 21 year addiction with meth and cocaine. She says getting picked up by a bounty hunter on March 7, 2016 was a defining moment and she knew that she needed help. When offered the opportunity to come to ReMerge, she grasped it with all her heart. Fast-forward to today, Christy is engaged to be married, has custody of her two boys, a job she loves and embraces her continued recovery. She graduated ReMerge on March 1, 2018.

Today, Christy invests her time as a screen printer for JAK’D Up Tees, a Christian-based, female-owned business in Edmond and as a mother to her two boys. She is so proud of Christian (18) and Corbyn (15). “Even through all the trauma in their lives, they are still compassionate and know that they don’t want to go down the path that I went down. They have their heads in the right spot!”

She calls the staff at ReMerge her “re-parents” because she said that they filled that void of community, love, and sense of belonging that she never received. “ReMerge re-parented me. The entire staff was always there for me. I was addicted to hurting myself. I had no self-worth. No one had ever given me time or attention. ReMerge gave me the non-judgmental support I needed to overcome my addiction and co-dependency.”

In her free time, Christy ministers to other women who are facing hard times. She’s found that she has a knack for connecting people with the resources they need, whether it is housing, a job, or even support in their own recovery. Her advice to current ReMerge moms is to “not put a timeline on your time at ReMerge because it is the shortest amount of time in your entire life. Take advantage of every opportunity to work on yourself!”

Christy reminds all of us that recovery is a very personal journey and ReMerge is often a defining step forward for women who are at a crucial crossroads in their lives. ReMerge supports mothers in building a solid foundation for themselves and their families. We are grateful to Christy for sharing her story of treatment, recovery and hope.
